KC business health is based in York and was formed in 2004 by Karen Coomer to provide personal, professional and effective occupational health & wellness services to organisations whatever their size. Karen Coomer is the Director of KC business health and holds a diploma, and BSc (Hons) degree in occupational health nursing, and additionally an MSc in occupational health psychology. She has over 20 years experience working in the private and public sector. For many years she worked as a senior manager for a multi-national company and therefore has first hand experience of the challenges and issues related to health and wellbeing at work.

Karen works in partnership with her customers providing a common sense, solution focused service with the "personal touch" sometimes missing in the business world we live in. It therefore goes without saying that KC business health invests in building relationships with their customers and really understanding their needs.

Karen has seen a shift over the years from traditional physical health problems in the workplace to mental health problems and wellness issues. This has led to a holistic approach which incorporates medical, social and psychological aspects to health issues seen in the workplace and rehabilitation back to work. 

Karen is a chartered member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), a member of the Association of Occupational Health Nurse Practitioners (UK), a member of the European Academy of Occupational Health Psychology and sits on the board of the Society of Occupational Medicine (SOM). Karen was shortlisted for the 2013 AOHNP Occupational Health Nurse of the Year award and has more recently been appointed as the Deputy Leader of the Faculty of Occupational Health Nursing (FOHN)

She is currently doing a part-time PhD in Applied Psychology at the Institute of Work, Health and Organisations at Nottingham University. Dr Jonathan Houdmont is her research supervisor and the research topic is exploring work ability and individual differences in relation to organisational health.She was awarded the 2012 Sandy Elder Award, for research, from the Society of Occupational Medicine. Karen regularly writes articles, presents at conferences and teaches on programmes for fellow occupational health practitioners.
